Greetings James,

It is worth noting that OFHEO, the regulator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in response to LTCM, issued a report in Feb. 4, 2003 (http://www.ofheo.gov/newsroom.aspx?ID=25&q1=0&q2=23) which outlined the risks, consequences and solutions of a potential collapse of Fannie and Freddie. The day after the 2 year research report was issued the head of OFHEO was fired by the President of the U.S. The belief by market participants that LTCM failures aren't likely to happen again are sorely mistaken. Each bailout of the hedge fund-like activities is going to result in a further errosion of the financial system.
